More Information
In December 2007, renowned boogie woogie pianist Gene Taylor reunited with fellow ex-Blasters and hometown pals, Dave Alvin, John Bazz and Bill Bateman for a string of gigs in blues bars on the west coast. Now for the first time, the best of these shows are available to you on the CD, "The Gene Taylor Blues Band Featuring Dave Alvin: Live!!! 605 Boogie!!!"
Whether you are a fan of The Blasters or Dave Alvin or just love hard rocking, electric blues and boogie woogie, this CD is a must. Gene, Dave, John and Bill grew up together in Downey, California where they formed the legendary roots rock band The Blasters with Dave's brother Phil, in 1979. After Gene and Dave left that group in the mid-80's, chances for the 4 them to get together and just play the blues have been few and far between. Gene moved on to join the powerhouse blues band, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, before moving to Europe a few years ago where he continues to tour as a solo act. Since he left The Blasters, Dave has released several critically acclaimed solo albums, while Bill, who has also pounded the skins for psycho-billy legends The Cramps as well hard blues revivalists like The Red Devils, rejoined John in The Blasters not long after these live recordings were made.
Dave Alvin remarked that playing these shows with The Gene Taylor Blues Band, "was a thrill, a challenge and a joy. We've all gone down different roads over the years that have kept us apart but once we get back onstage together, all the time and miles just disappear. Playing the music I loved growing up with the old friends I grew up with, is as close as I can ever get to going to back home again. And, more importantly, nobody plays boogie woogie piano better than Gene Taylor." |
