We are Allstar Weekend, formerly known as Allstar, and formerly formerly known (or not-so-known) as Outerspace Politicians.
The story goes something like this...
Zach and Cameron met in Middle School in the San Diego suburb of Poway, California. Zach taught Cameron how to not be socially awkward, although recently, those roles seemed to have reversed. In High School, Zach started a band and put some jamz up on Myspace. That's how long ago it was...Myspace. The demos included the song "Dance Forever," which was recorded in their bedroom. The songs caught the attention of brother and sister team / owners of the independent, influential, trend-setting, and world-renowned label Drive-Thru Records, Stefanie Reines & Richard Reines (the former of the two who is obviously writing this bio). Stefanie and Richard were best known for their incredible ability to recognize and cultivate young, raw talent, and immediately saw it in "Outerspace Politicians."
Zach convinced Cam to learn to play bass, and they recruited their friend Michael Martinez on drums. Michael happened to attend their rival High School and beat Zach in an "Air Band" competition, which remains a sore subject. The band now complete, the two teams joined forces - band and management - and set out to change the world and/or have some fun and make music.
First order of business: get rid of that atrocious band name. Name changed to Allstar.
Second order of business: not get sued by the NBA. "Weekend" added to band name. Still a legal issue, but soon sorted out and able to co-exist in peace & harmony.
The legendary story continues with the guys handing out flyers at the premiere for the JoBro 3D movie and getting "discovered" by a casting agent at Disney. She told the program director at Radio Disney about the band, and they were added last minute to the first-ever "Next Big Thing" contest.
They lost. Boo.
They wound up getting signed to Hollywood Records. Yay!
And so began the "Hollywood Years." Singles, videos, photo shoots, ep, album, extended ep, youtube videos, good stuff, bad stuff, fun stuff, not so fun stuff, cool people, not so cool people, ups, downs, highs, lows...whew! The outcome: an amazing fanbase who we love & cherish, some lifelong friends, and an album that we are still very proud of (All The Way) with the exception of a certain song (hint: it includes an ellipsis in the title).
To walk in the valley (ie Burbank, CA) of the shadow of Mickey...No matter how appealing it seemed, ASW never fully fit the Disney "mold." There were no TV shows, no movies, no promise rings, no smoke and mirrors. Just real dudes making real music wanting to do real tours and make real youtube videos without having to do some real censoring! We loved our H'wood years, and for the record, we LOVE Disney, but it was time for us to move on. And so we asked to be let out of our deal. No joke. We were not dropped. They were kind enough to recognize our vision was different from theirs, and it was time to move along.
Welcome to present day A-Dub. Our last tour we did as free agents and it was our best to date! The songs we're writing we are more proud of than anything we've ever written. We are a 3-piece now, but our friendship is stronger than ever. We are happy and excited to move into this next phase of our lives and careers with you. We're even launching a kickstarter (surprise!) to fund our new record because we are doing this without the support of a record label. It's just us and you :)
Glad you can be a part of our next chapter.
