Latin Rock does not get any better than La Ventana. Originating from the arts waterfall and cultural explosion of San Francisco, La Ventana cruise to the Spanish-flavored mix of pop, rock and soul. On the surface level, they might remind to some of Santana, whose influence can definitely be felt here. However, La Ventana have their own colorful vision. Having an 8 member line up can certainly boost a group\'s power, but nobody overshadows the other.
Zanzibar plays a mix of infectious, danceable, grooves based on Afro-beat, Latin, Funk and other styles in an original format. Zanzibar is based in San Carlos but has been playing throughout the Bay Area at festivals, clubs and parties.
Growing up in SF, brothers Ron and Alfonso Portillo were influenced by local bands such as Santana, Malo, War, El Chicano, Azteca, and Journey. Having come from a musical family, the brothers started playing music together in the early 1980s. They continued on their musical journey and were later discovered by Victor Pamiroyan, manager of Latin legend Pete Escovedo, who recognized Los Cochinos as an up and coming band that is well on its way to success in the Latin rock music scene. Ron Portillo\'s talented hands create the Latin flavored songs on the keyboard and Alfonso creates the melodies on his guitar with feeling and passion. Together, they create a special sound that has been compared to the early sound of Santana, Malo and other Latin Rock style bands.
